Reportedly the largest ever round of layoffs at Alphabet, 12,000 jobs will be eliminated shortly.
Google’s Cuts 12,000 Jobs
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed the layoffs, which amounted to 6% of the company’s employees and were made in response to the “economic realities… we face today,” putting an end to weeks of conjecture.
Its CEO explained the move in a blog post, writing that the company needed to “sharpen our focus, re-engineer our cost base, and allocate our talent and capital to our highest priorities” in line with other Big Tech companies.
