Parent company ByteDance was revealed to have spied on many American journalists who it claimed had been in communication with ByteDance employees, gaining access to confidential materials. This casts doubt on the future of TikTok in the US.
TikTok Under Investigation
The behavior of TikTok with no doubt goes against press freedom, the company’s public declarations about how its employees access US user info, and the privacy of TikTok’s users.
TikTok has consistently assured the CFIUS that it does not exchange information about its American users with its employees in China while the company is under investigation for possible ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
