WhatsApp launches a proxy functionality, that allows users to chose a server to stay connected even if the networks goes down. This is extremely helpful when governments intentionally disconnect the service.
What To Do When WhatsApp Goes Down?
By using a proxy, you can access WhatsApp via servers arranged all around the world by individuals and organizations with the goal of facilitating unrestricted and secure communication.
Will Cathcart, the Head of WhatsApp of Meta said: “While many of us celebrated by texting our loved ones on WA, there are millions of people in Iran and elsewhere who continue to be denied the right to communicate freely and privately. So today we’re making it easier for anyone to connect to WA using a proxy.“.
“This will enable anyone to connect through servers set up by volunteers and organizations dedicated to helping people communicate freely. So when a connection to WhatsApp is blocked, people have the power to restore access.“.
“The world has never been more connected yet there are still internet disruptions that threaten people’s access. We hope that making it easier to use a proxy will make it that much harder to violate people’s right to communicate privately.“.
