According to sources, the NFL is currently in advanced negotiations with Google to grant YouTube exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, a subscription-only program that allows American football fans to watch Sunday games.
YouTube TV Growth
At the moment, it is still not clear to learn the terms of the agreement. According to The Wall Street Journal, AT&T Inc. and private-equity company TPG Inc., owners of satellite broadcaster DirecTV, presently pay $1.5 billion each year for Sunday Ticket rights. All Sunday games are available to them via Sunday Ticket.
This is additional evidence that major sports are moving away from traditional TV and toward streaming and digital businesses that are prepared to spend extensively on content, such as a possible shift of Sunday Ticket to YouTube TV.
More than 5 million people signed up for a free trial or paid subscription ($64.99/Month) to YouTube TV in June, according to YouTube. As a result of this agreement, it is anticipated that growth would accelerate.
