Reddit’s new premium API model might cost the popular iOS app Apollo millions of dollars in fees.
Reddit’s Pricing
If Reddit maintains its current size, it will charge Apollo $20 million annually. Christian Selig, who developed Rif and Relay, is dissatisfied with the suggested pricing because he believes it will have a negative effect on the viability of similar third-party apps.
Similar to Twitter’s API revocation and user abandonment, Reddit intends to monetize its API by charging developers and AI businesses to train language models.
