X, a popular social media platform, is under scrutiny as a new report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) highlights the platform’s struggle in moderating hate speech. The report reveals that X is inadequately addressing antisemitic and Islamophobic content, including posts that endorse hateful ideologies and dehumanize specific religious groups.
The CCDH’s investigation encompassed 200 posts from 101 accounts, all featuring hate speech tied to recent Middle Eastern conflicts or influenced by them. Despite using X’s reporting tools on October 31 to flag these posts, the majority remain active on the platform, including posts featuring antisemitic caricatures and derogatory depictions of Palestinians and Muslims.
The findings are particularly concerning considering the reach of these posts, with some garnering over 100,000 views, including Holocaust denial content and other offensive materials. Notably, 82 of the involved accounts are verified with a blue check, indicating their prominence on the platform.
This issue points to a broader challenge in content moderation for X, especially considering the high view counts and the potential impact of such content on public discourse and community safety.
