WhatsApp is enhancing its group chat experience with the introduction of a new voice chat feature tailored for large groups.
This latest update from the Meta-owned messaging platform allows users to start audio rooms within group chats, facilitating live discussions among members.
Designed to streamline audio communication in large groups, this new feature operates differently from traditional group calls, which typically notify every group member.
Instead, voice chats initiate silently, represented by an in-chat bubble that users can tap to join. This approach minimizes disruptions and offers a more seamless way to start group audio conversations.
The voice chat feature provides flexibility, allowing participants to engage in spoken chats while continuing to message those who are not part of the conversation.
Additionally, users have easy access to call controls, enabling them to unmute, hang up, or send messages without having to exit the voice chat.
Set to roll out globally over the coming weeks, this feature will initially be available to WhatsApp groups with 33 or more members. A key aspect of WhatsApp’s voice chats is the assurance of privacy and security, as the platform ensures end-to-end encryption for these conversations.
This update positions WhatsApp alongside other popular platforms like Discord, Telegram, and Slack, which already offer similar large-group audio chat functionalities.
