Apple is set to integrate ChatGPT into its ecosystem, bringing the AI’s capabilities to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS later this year. This partnership allows users to utilize ChatGPT’s advanced features, such as image and document understanding, seamlessly across Apple devices.
Siri will leverage ChatGPT’s intelligence to provide more accurate and contextual answers. Before any data is sent to ChatGPT, users will be prompted for permission. Siri will then deliver the answers directly, enhancing user experience and efficiency.
Additionally, ChatGPT will be incorporated into Apple’s systemwide Writing Tools, aiding users in content generation. These tools will allow users to access ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities, offering a variety of styles to complement their writing.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI said “We’re excited to partner with Apple to bring ChatGPT to their users in a new way. Apple shares our commitment to safety and innovation, and this partnership aligns with OpenAI’s mission to make advanced AI accessible to everyone. Together with Apple, we’re making it easier for people to benefit from what AI can offer.”
Privacy is a key focus in this integration. Requests made to ChatGPT via Siri and Writing Tools will not be stored by OpenAI, and user IP addresses will be masked. Users have the option to connect their ChatGPT accounts, applying their data preferences under ChatGPT’s policies.
The integration, powered by GPT-4o, will be available for free on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia without the need for an account. ChatGPT subscribers can link their accounts to access additional features directly within these experiences. This collaboration represents a significant enhancement in AI accessibility and privacy for Apple users, aligning with Apple’s commitment to user-centric innovations.
