It seems that Gmail users are experiencing more ads within their inboxes, as per a report by 9to5Google. The frequency of these ads seems to have increased, and they are placed right in the middle of the email feed.
Gmail Ads Everywhere
Despite Gmail’s long-term practice of placing ads at the top of the inbox, the company has never dared to insert them within the body of text messages. The new arrangement makes it harder to tell promotional emails from genuine ones, even when the latter bear the familiar little green “Ad” sign.
Recently, a number of Gmail mobile app users have expressed dissatisfaction concerning the appearance of ads at the top of their inboxes. These ads have been criticized for their large and intrusive graphics. The issue has been raised repeatedly in recent weeks.
Though a Gmail help page states that expandable ads are present at the top of user’s tabs, it is unknown if Google sells ads that are placed inside the body of the emails received by the users.
If Google continues to display ads within the inbox instead of their usual placement at the top, many Gmail users may become dissatisfied with the platform.
