Beginning in March 2023, Google Ads will begin informing advertisers of future changes to location targeting across all campaign types.
Google Ads Location Targeting New Settings
The updates are meant to streamline and standardize the targeting procedure, making it easier for advertisers to develop successful campaigns.
Due to its minimal uptake, the “Search interest: People searching for your target areas” setting will be removed. Both the “Presence or interest” and “Presence” targeting options will remain available.
“Presence or interest: People in, regularly in, or who’ve shown interest in your excluded locations” will no longer be an option to exclude. According to the feedback Google’s received, many people found this difficult to understand and noticed no performance improvement. Those from the locations you choose to omit will still not receive any campaigns.
In March, advertisers will need to update their location targeting parameters to take full advantage of these enhancements.
