If your plan was to build a brand-new website with a domain name from Google Domains, it’s time to reconsider your approach. Google recently sold its Domains company to Squarespace for $180 million.
Google Domains Got Sold
According to Bloomberg, Google is abandoning the domain name business as part of its cost-cutting measures and restructuring plans to focus on future endeavors. Google is cutting over 12,000 jobs, which is 6% of its workforce, to focus on new opportunities.
During this transition, it seems that Google Domains has been neglected and Squarespace will take the responsibility of hosting the URLs provided by this service.
