To end a class action lawsuit alleging that Facebook improperly shared user data with third parties, Facebook parent company Meta has agreed to pay $725 million.

It’s the “largest recovery ever achieved in a data privacy class action and the most Facebook has ever paid to resolve a private class action” the legal firm representing the plaintiffs (Keller Rohrback L.L.P) claimed in a court statement late Thursday.
After Facebook admitted in 2018 that 87 million users’ data had been improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica, a consultancy firm with ties to former President Trump’s 2016 election campaign, a class action lawsuit was filed.
