TikTok and DistroKid Team Up to Empower Independent Musicians

TikTok is enhancing its platform for independent musicians through a new partnership with DistroKid, enabling easier and faster creation of official TikTok Artist Accounts directly from the DistroKid dashboard. This innovative integration aims to provide artist-specific features that help musicians engage with their fans more effectively on TikTok.

This collaboration will significantly reduce the time required for artists to establish their official TikTok presence, cutting it down to just a few hours for DistroKid members. With this partnership, artists can now access features such as a Music Tab, New Releases, By Artist, Behind the Song, Fan Spotlight, and Ticketing, fostering a stronger connection between DistroKid’s artist community and TikTok’s global audience of music enthusiasts.

Jay (Junghyoun) Bae, Global Head of Music Partnership Development at TikTok said: “TikTok is excited to partner with DistroKid to make it even easier for millions of artists to access powerful and easy-to-use tools to fuel their growth on TikTok, drive increased consumption of their music and grow their fanbases,”.

Since 2019, DistroKid and TikTok have worked closely to support independent artists. DistroKid was the first distributor to assist artists in uploading their music to TikTok. Recently, a deal was made to include DistroKid members’ music in TikTok’s Commercial Music Library (“CML”), offering brands a pre-cleared music catalog for their advertising needs on TikTok. Last year, millions of tracks by DistroKid members became available on TikTok Music, TikTok’s new premium subscription streaming service currently in beta in five countries. Additionally, DistroKid members can distribute their music videos to TikTok via DistroVid and have their music featured in ByteDance’s popular video editing tool, CapCut.

Phil Bauer, COO and President at DistroKid said: “It’s now faster than ever for any artist to create their official TikTok Artist Account directly through DistroKid, reducing the process from weeks to just hours. Building on our long history of collaboration, DistroKid members now have unique access to tools and features for promoting their music on TikTok’s leading discovery platform.”

By integrating with DistroKid, TikTok is not only streamlining the artist account creation process but also enhancing the promotional capabilities for independent musicians. This partnership underscores TikTok’s commitment to being a powerful music discovery platform, driving engagement and visibility for emerging artists.

This partnership between TikTok and DistroKid is a game-changer for independent musicians, providing them with efficient tools to establish their presence and engage with fans on one of the most influential music discovery platforms. The ease of creating official artist accounts and the suite of promotional features will undoubtedly boost the visibility and success of emerging artists on TikTok.
