After a hacker claimed to have information on more than 400 million accounts, Twitter is now being investigated by an advocacy organization.
Twitter’s Silence
The hacker known as “Ryushi” is asking for $200,000 in exchange for releasing and erasing the data, which is rumored to include personal information belonging to some celebrities and government officials.
In response to this security breach, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has stated that it “will examine Twitter’s compliance with data-protection law.”
However, Twitter has been silent on the matter. It is unconfirmed how extensive the trove is but it is claimed to contain contact information for famous people and politicians. To date, just a tiny “sample” has been made available to the general public.
Among those affected, US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez‘s was among the hacked files released. Piers Morgan, whose Twitter account was stolen lately, is also said to be compromised.
Press enquiries about the alleged breach have gone unanswered by Twitter so far.
