On Tuesday, Twitter announced it would begin lifting its long-standing restriction on political ads, paving the way for political parties and politicians to advertise on the platform.
Easing Twitter Advertising Policy
Fearing an increase in controversial content following Elon Musk’s takeover, advertisers have postpended spending.
In a recent tweet by the Twitter Safety account, Twitter said “We believe that cause-based advertising can facilitate public conversation around important topics. Today, we’re relaxing our ads policy for cause-based ads in the US. We also plan to expand the political advertising we permit in the coming weeks.”.
They continue by saying in another tweet “Moving forward, we will align our advertising policy with that of TV and other media outlets. As with all policy changes, we will first ensure that our approach to reviewing and approving content protects people on Twitter. We’ll share more details as this work progresses.“.
Way before Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. The platform had a restriction policy against any types of political advertising.
