Meta wants to capitalize on the shift to DMs by offering new options for people and companies to reach broader audiences in their messaging streams and connect more directly with friends and fans.
Users can follow creators or receive direct messages (DMs) on topics of interest using Meta’s WhatsApp Channels. A searchable directory and a new “Updates” page will be included in the app, assuring current and pertinent content. Personal information won’t be displayed on channels, and the content will only be kept for 30 days.
Additionally, Meta is investigating payment and business discovery components. Brands may have access to new channels for promotions and in-stream purchases thanks to the app.
