Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in your field?
My professional journey has been uniquely shaped by a passion for entrepreneurship and an early immersion into the dynamic startup world. With over six years of experience as an international marketing leader, I’ve successfully navigated diverse markets across Europe and North America. My foray into the startup landscape began during my time studying abroad in California, where I competed at a Startup Weekend event, which provided a pivotal opportunity to not only develop and pitch a startup idea but also to delve into the entrepreneurial process, from conceptualization to market validation. This early experience fueled my enthusiasm for innovative solutions and set the stage for my continued involvement in the startup ecosystem.
Building on this foundation, I’ve seamlessly integrated these principles into my roles, from the Performance Marketing Manager at hocaboo in Berlin to my tenure as the Chief Marketing Officer at #NotMe. Today, as the Chief Marketing Officer at Prelim, I bring a wealth of startup experience, infusing every project with an entrepreneurial spirit to drive innovation and success.
My journey reflects not only a commitment to international marketing but also a deep-rooted understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the startup world, a realm I’ve been passionate about since the early stages of my career.
What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Throughout my career, I’ve encountered various challenges that have ultimately fueled my growth. One significant hurdle was steering the marketing strategy for #NotMe, addressing sensitive topics such as workplace misconduct. I navigated this by fostering open communication within the team, ensuring that our campaigns were both empathetic and impactful. Additionally, the dynamic nature of the tech industry presented challenges, which I overcame by staying adaptable, continuously learning, and leveraging industry trends to enhance campaign performance.
What are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career, and how have they influenced your approach to leadership?
One crucial lesson is the value of continuous learning. Whether it’s understanding different industries, roles, or embracing new techniques, this has broadened my perspective and enriched my decision-making. In terms of leadership, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment has been paramount. I’ve learned that a diverse and engaged team is essential for innovation and sustained success. This approach is deeply embedded in my role at Prelim, where collaboration and curiosity drive our marketing strategies.
One thing that people don’t know about you?
Not only do I love exploring different cuisines and traveling to new places, but I’m also an aviation geek! Learning about aircraft and even the cruise industry is a unique aspect of my life that people might find surprising. Beyond my professional achievements, this passion adds an unexpected dimension to my personality.
What advice would you give to young professionals or entrepreneurs who are just starting out in your field?
My advice is simple: Learn as much as you can. Even if it’s beyond your current role, expanding your knowledge across industries and embracing new skills will undoubtedly benefit you in the long run. Stay curious, be open to challenges, and surround yourself with a team that is as passionate and curious as you are. In the fast-paced world of marketing, adaptability is key, and a continuous thirst for knowledge will set you apart on your journey to success. My journey is marked not only by my professional experiences but also by learning, showcasing the importance of staying abreast of industry advancements from the outset of one’s career.
