Musk thinks that paid verification is the best way to combat the platform’s bot problem, and if Twitter can optimize subscription take-up, more people will be forced to pay for the verification tick or risk having their account flagged as suspicious.
Elon’s Vision
Elon Musk’s original prediction for Twitter was that subscriptions would account for half of the company’s revenue; this would have required 24 million users to each pay $8 a month for a blue tick.
Musk believes that paid social media will someday be “the only social media that matters,” even though Twitter Blue, which is currently available in all areas, only has only 450,000 paying subscribers.
Elon Musk has said that he believes Twitter would eventually be worth $250 billion, with a goal of 50 percent subscriptions. Revenue for Twitter is expected to drop significantly from last year, to roughly $3 billion.
Musk’s goal of 968 million Twitter Blue users by 2023 is ambitious, especially considering the app’s limited resources (relative to those of other social media platforms and Twitter itself).
