The developers of Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, have released Artifact, an invite-only news app featuring a social element and feedback options to improve the individualization of the news reading experience.
Artifact is an American news reader that employs machine learning and algorithms to personalize its information for each user. Even though Artifact use machine learning to tailor news stories to each user, Systrom warns that the devil is in the specifics.
Artifact selects articles from reliable sources and customizes them according on the user’s behavior (such as clicks, dwell duration, and read time). They’ve funded it themselves and hired five Instagram veterans.
