This ruling relates to a previous case in which a privacy advocate argued that Europeans were not adequately protected from the U.S. Monitoring by the framework for transferring data from the EU to the United States.
Meta Lawsuit
There have been challenges to several procedures that allow for the legal transfer of personal data between the EU and the US. In 2020, the highest court in the European Union, the European Court of Justice, declared invalid the latest version of the Privacy Shield framework.
Nick Clegg, Meta president of global affairs, and Jennifer Newstead, chief legal officer said in a statement “We are appealing these decisions and will immediately seek a stay with the courts who can pause the implementation deadlines, given the harm that these orders would cause, including to the millions of people who use Facebook every day.”.
Meta stated it would file an appeal of the ruling and associated penalty.
