In the four days after Netflix informed customers of its paid sharing policy on May 23, Antenna (via The Wall Street Journal) reported a large increase in memberships.
New Password-Sharing Regulations
On May 26 and 27, Netflix had a 102% surge in daily signups and attracted 100,000 new subscribers. To share their account with up to two persons outside of their family, members must pay an additional $7.99 per month under the company’s new password-sharing regulations. Even though Netflix had warned investors about a “cancel reaction,” there were more new subscribers than cancellations during that time.
In the US, users’ reactions to the company’s crackdown on password sharing have been conflicting. Some users have canceled their subscriptions, while others have paid extra to add family members.
