After learning that employees had uploaded confidential information to the ChatGPT site, Samsung has internally banned employee use of popular generative AI tools.
Samsung Blocks AI Platforms
The new policy was announced to employees of Samsung’s largest division in a memo sent out on Monday and obtained by Bloomberg News. The corporation expressed concern in the letter that data sent to AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Bing could be difficult to retrieve and delete once it’s on external servers and potentially leaked to other users.
“Interest in generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT has been growing internally and externally. While this interest focuses on the usefulness and efficiency of these platforms, there are also growing concerns about security risks presented by generative AI.”.
The usage of generative AI platforms is now forbidden on all Samsung-owned devices and internal networks. Consumer-facing products like Android phones and Windows computers are unaffected.
