According to a news release, Pepsi is developing a cola-infused sauce for July Fourth to strengthen its position as the preferred soft drink for hot dogs.
By collaborating with Franks to produce Pepsi Colachup, a condiment that combines ketchup and Pepsi’s delicious citrus undertones, Pepsi hopes to take advantage of the long weekend. There will be a product offered at Chase Field, Yankee Stadium, Target Field, and Comerica Park that was created in collaboration with Culinary Institute of America Consulting.
Pepsi is also holding a contest for free hot dogs and exclusive in-stadium tasting. The advertising effort tries to set Pepsi apart from rival Coca-Cola, which has greater affiliations with fast food companies.
